In animals, nitrogen is an important component in proteins which aid in growth, reproduction and survival. nitrogen is a major part of amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins and nucleic acid. All human tissues contains proteins, cell replacements, tissue repair and normal growth all require nitrogen. In plants, nitrogen forms the larger part of chlorophyll which is essential for photosynthesis. Nitrogen also forms part of the energy transfer compounds like ATP.
