Peripatric speciation is where small groups of individuals break off from the larger group and form a new species. According to Darwin, he found out that each island was inhabited by its own kind of species of finch found nowhere else. Some had beaks that were adapted for eating large seeds, small seeds and other for feeding on small insects. However, the different species resembled one another closely in their internal anatomy therefore suggesting peripatric speciation occurred.
