What are the muscle movements involved in cycling and explain the joints only the lower body?
Quadriceps, hamstrings, calf and shin muscles, and gluteal muscles are the main muscles used in cycling. The start of the pedal cycle begins with the gluteals that take the hip to an extended position from a flexed position. The rectus femoris is one of four quadriceps, but the only one to cross the hip and the knee joint and is responsible for both bending and knee extension. The main role of the hamstrings in cycling is to help the knee flex through the back part of the pedal stroke and to also stabilize the knee. The lower leg Gastrocnemius and the Soleus don't give the pedal stroke much power, but their main role is to stabilize the lower leg so that the upper leg force could be efficiently passed to the pedal.
