Good day, is this statement True or False?
in the olfactory system, does damage to the receptor affect the perception of test? I was thinking no because olfactory bulb affects it, not the receptors?
The statement is true. When airbone molecules are inhaled, they dissolve and bind to protein present in mucus ,which transports it to the olfactory dendrites. The odorant protein complex then binds to receptor proteins on the olfactory cell membranes. This receptors cause depolarization in membrane potential causing an action potential depending on the strength of the stimuli. Therefore, damage to the receptors will affects the perception of taste.
