What is Chondroid? in one Wikipipedia site it says "Mesosomes or chondroids..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesosome (first line). so does that mean mesosomes and chondroid are the same? pls explain
Chondroid is a tissue resembling cartilage and occurring in adults.
Mesosome is a characteristic, folded invaginations, specialization of the cell membrane of bacteria which develops as an ingrowth. It comprises tubules, vesicles and lamellae. Septal mesosomes connect plasma membranes with nucleoid. During the cell division process, they assist in septum formation and replication. Consequently, they are also referred to as chondroid. They also increase the enzymatic contact and surface area of the plasma membrane.
