What are the ways that microbes gain resistance to ant6i-microbial reagents?
The ways include:
1)Changes in membrane permeability to anti- microbial agent i.e reduced antibiotic penetration.
2) Enzymatic degradation of antibacterial drugs.e.g resistance to penicillin is antibiotics hydrolysis mediated by bacterial enzyme, beta- lactamase.
3)Alteration of bacterial proteins that are antimicrobial targets e.g resistance to methicillin occurs through alteration of an antibiotic target protein, penicillin-binding protein.
