Antibiotic resistance is a phenomenon of the resistance of a pathogen strain to the action of one or more antibacterial drugs. Resistance to antibiotics develops as a result of natural selection and appears spontaneously due to mutations that are accumulated over time due to improper use of antibiotics. These bacteria can infect humans and animals, whereas the infections they cause are harder to treat than infections from bacteria that do not have this resistance. More and more infectious diseases (such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, and salmonellosis) are becoming more challenging to treat due to a decrease in the effectiveness of antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance results in continuous hospitalization, increased medical costs, and high mortality rate.
