It depends on the water level at hight/low tide: at low tide the water doesn't cover the soil and the system of benthic organisms, flora and fauna are opened to the wind, sun and influence of other abiotic factors, there is a lack of moisture and high salt concentration; high water protects the system from these factors and a lot of living beings come with it (phyto- and zooplankton, algae, etc.), there are processes of reproduction.
