Williams Syndrome (WS), a condition caused by deletion of ∼28 genes of chromosome 7. WS deleted genes perturb hypothalamic-pituitary release of oxytocin, implicating complex neuropeptide circuitry for WS features and providing evidence for their roles in endogenous regulation of human social behavior.
The study of oxytocin role in the pathophysiology and therapeutics of neuropsychiatric disorders has increased during the last decade and represent presently an important area of research in neuroscience. Genetic and neuroendocrine knowledge are actively used for invention of cure for WS. But WS is an uncommon and complex disorder and there is no cure, nor is there a standard course of treatment for WS.
