In all meiotic cells of bisexual reproduction the cytological basis of crossing over occurs by means of meiosis-I and meiosis-II.
In meiosis-I the parental homologous chromosomes come together to form chromatids that is each chromosome having four chromatids with one centromere and exchange the genetic material through the process of synopsis known as crossing over. The crossing over allows the genetic material to be passed to the next generation through sexual gametes that form at the end of Meiosis-II division.
