Benefits

Peer learning: When students work in groups, they will learn from one another. Peers may be able to express concepts or ideas to their classmates more effectively than a lecturer or teacher.

Students will voice their perspectives or ideas during the group work process, with the other students in the group providing input. This will improve critical thinking. This response to each student will contain both critique and interpretation of the expressed viewpoints or ideas. The final group project will be based on all of the thoughts and ideas that were addressed.

Enhances problem-solving skills: Each piece of collaborative learning group work will require some problem-solving. To finish the task, each member of the group will need to contribute to the solution.

Challenges

People learn at different rates: People learn at different rates, which is why group work can take longer than individual learning at times. However, by allowing students to learn in groups, someone in the group may be able to convey something to another student that a teacher or lecturer has difficult to communicate to the same student.

Someone may be in charge of the group: The best case scenario in group scenarios is that no one is in charge and everyone works together to fulfill the task. In some groups, someone may decide to take leadership or become the group's leader, which can lead to tension within the group.
