1. Psychological barriers- people of one group may have a way of expressing their ideas which could different to the way another group could do.

2. Language barrier- where one group understands the language which another group doesn't understand presents a communication barrier.

3. Geographic distance- this refers to the physical distance between two communicating groups. If it's large then there is a communication barrier.

4. Conflicting values- one group may consider some social value as vices while another group considers them as normal. This brings about conflicts when it comes to communication.

5. Ethnocentrism- this refers to one group looking down the cultures of another group. With this discrimination, there exists communication barrier.
