The principles of conservation of mass and energy are indeed an important conceptual framework in the discipline of geomorphology. These principles state that in the closed system such as our planet, mass and energy can be considered as conserved quantities.
For example, the resultant thermal energy that our planet has is a result of the input of heat from the sun and earth bowels and the output of heat by radiation into the surrounding space.
The acquired mass of a given region equals the birth of mass in this region minus the destruction of mass in this area plus the mass that was transported into this region.
These frameworks allow us understanding the evolution of our planet.
