The Appalachian Mountains are rich in coal, oil, iron, copper, silver, and cobalt. Also, the mountains form rivers which width and depth allow them to be used for industrial purposes. Due to the rivers, barges can descend from the mountains to the ocean. The Appalachian Mountains provide challenges for Canadians when the period of melting in the mountains coincides with the maximum amount of precipitation, the water level in Canada rises by 15-20 m. It leads to a flood of a significant part of the floodplain.
