The main goal of the new constitutions of state was to stop the kinds of abuses that brought about the Revolution. The British lacked a written constitution and many Americans felt that a written constitution would be harder to violate and therefore their rights would be protected by the constitution. It recognized that power comes from people themselves what is commonly known as democracy. It created separation of power for better governance and recognized equality of all men.
