Explain what "breaking news" means and give a suitable example of a breaking news story.
The term "breaking news" refers to current events that are "breaking." Unexpected incidents, such as an aircraft crash or a building fire, are frequently referred to as breaking news. "The Fire Department is currently responding to a confirmed fire in the Tudbury's Department Store," for example, is an example of breaking news. Not all of the information is yet available. There are still a lot of unanswered questions. The news team, on the other hand, believes that this story is significant enough that you should be aware of it as it develops. A press conference that sticks to the script and doesn't reveal any surprises is a weak definition of a breaking news story. A press conference in which the mayor reveals that a policy he's been working on for months will go into effect on Monday isn't exactly breaking news.
