Mankiti and Gyeke take positions on role and position of an individual withi the context of african communication. Gyekye is regarded as moderate whereas
Menkitis position is interpreted by some as radical. Critically discuss thesr philosophiers position. Which of these two positions do you support? And why?
I contend that Mankitis's talk of personhood entails a perfectionist model story (Theory) to the effect that one ought to lead a morally excellent life in the context of being with others. Secondly, I deny that Mankitis's political theory reflects rights rather I submit. A more charitable reading would recognize that he takes an agnostic stance towards them and that he is conscious of an African political theory as one that is duty-based.
I also highlight that Mankitis's contribution poses a challenge to African philosophy to justify their ontological commitment to rights. I conclude by drawing out attention to the fact that Gyekye's in his latter political philosophy writings encloses Mankitis's duty-based political theory that rights take secondary consideration to duties.
