Q: Which force held the energy that resulted in the big bang together? If energy can be packed in a single position, is it not supposed to be contained by something?

A: No force was required for this since the energy was in space, and the only available space was the space where the energy was contained. Energy cannot exist if there is no space. So, the energy was just in space of a size of singularity.
