Answer to Question #200929 in Classical Mechanics for Steve

Question #200929

I am having trouble understanding this homework question conceptually and would appreciate guidance (not a complete solution).

A particle of mass m moves in a 1D potential V(x). Because of energy conservation, it undergoes periodic motion, oscillating between two turning points: x_1 and x_2.

Find the period of the oscillation (in terms of m and U(x)). Use the law of energy conservation to find the oscillator's velocity v(x)=dx/dt, separate x and r dependence and integrate appropriately.

Thanks in advance.
