Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, KCMG, DSO, (20 July 1869 – 21 April 1930) was a senior Canadian-born British Army officer and British Empire colonial administrator. He published a number of works on military topics and Africa. In 1925, he became the heir of the Ghanaian British colony, the country developed economically, the focus of government power gradually shifted from the hands of the Governor and his officials into those of Ghanaians. This transition resulted from the gradual development of a strong spirit of nationalism and was to result eventually in this the first African nation to gain independence. The statement he made meant that there is need for the Ghanaian government to develop its own institutions of development, which will make them independent of the colonial masters after which they will be able to advance their civilization.
