Nigeria has a record of rulers encouraging ethnic retaliation and driving the nation into racial turmoil. Because Uganda has had to deal with wars with its neighbors Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a regular basis, ethnicity is not a significant factor in Ugandan affairs. The Ituri war in the northeastern part of the DRC, which involves the DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda, is one of these disputes.

Furthermore, ethnic wars have long-reaching consequences well beyond their epicenters. Internal migration, regional instability, economic catastrophes, environmental calamities, dispersion and rebound impacts, and favorable circumstances for organized crime and terrorism are among them.
