Describe and apply the following theoretical explanations (e.g. hypodermic syringe
model, inoculation model, two-step flow model) of the relationship between the media
and its audiences and how it manifested during the pandemic.
According to the hypodermic syringe paradigm, the media can have an instantaneous and direct effect on the audience. That is, the audience accepts without question what they see and hear in the media. During the early stages of the covid-19 epidemic, the public believed the media when it came to determining which countries the virus had infected and the amount of persons who had been afflicted. Resistance to persuasion is established with the inoculation approach, and individuals have the opportunity to defend their convictions. During the pandemic, there is a counter-argument as to where the virus originated and what caused it. Some people assume it's China (Wuhan), while others claim it's the US. The two-step flow model, on the other hand, maintains that interpersonal contact is the most effective technique to alter public opinion. This was seen during the pandemic when the vaccination was being rolled out. Various individuals and groups have debated the vaccine's merits and potential negative effects.
