Auguste Comte, one of the founding fathers of sociology, invented the word. Sociology, according to Comte, could bring all sciences together and benefit society. Comte was a positivist who believed that sociology ought to be objective and have a scientific foundation. Comte proposed a three-stage model of civilization development. In August 1817, he moved to 36 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th arrondissement of Paris and later that year, he became a pupil and secretary to Henri de Saint-Simon, who introduced him to intellectual society and strongly influenced his thinking. Auguste Comte developed the concept of three stages in his book The Course in Positive Philosophy. It defines civilization as a whole, as well as each individual science.
