Family is the first agent of socialization. Mothers and fathers, siblings and grandparents, plus members of an extended family, all teach a child what he or she needs to know. Many social factors affect the way a family raises its children. We can use sociological imagination to recognize that individual behaviors are affected by the historical period in which they take place. They claim that by socializing future generations, the needs of society are met and that the instilling of what are perceived to be socially agreed shared norms and values in youths results in future respect for authority and conformity to society's rules, among other things. Social interaction helps young children to start to develop their sense of self, and also start to learn what others expect from them. Putting them in preschool or child care helps your child naturally come out of that phase. Sharing, setting boundaries, and problem-solving all come from socializing and interacting.
