QUESTION 1: UBUNTU
Write an essay in response to the following question: “How can the concept of ubuntu be
incorporated (a) in the classroom practice and (b) in the life of a person in general?”
Ubuntu is a philosophy that can assist teachers to manage classrooms effectively, as it encourages working together amongst people in various settings. Ubuntu is founded on three pillars, namely, interpersonal values, intrapersonal values, and environmental values. many teachers viewed role modeling as the important principle and trust as the important value in the implementation of Ubuntu. They further found that group activities like sports, theatrical acting, and music are suitable strategies for Ubuntu leadership at school. Ubuntu, in this sense, embodies the concept of mutual understanding and the active appreciation of the value of human difference. Ubuntu includes values such as love, tolerance, peace, and compassion.
A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based on a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished when others are tortured or oppressed. Ubuntu believes in the philosophy that; "I am what I am because of who we all are." Ubuntu is essentially about togetherness, and how all of our actions have an impact on others and on society. It is the common thread of the UN's Global Goals, and the motivation in the mission to end extreme poverty so that everyone, everywhere, can live equally. Ubuntu is an ancient African word that refers to humanity to others. Ubuntu stops being Ubuntu and became personal gain when the entire community suffers at the benefit of an individual. Under the Ubuntu philosophy, the community is more important than an individual. Ubuntu means love, truth, peace, happiness, eternal optimism, inner goodness, etc. Ubuntu is the essence of a human being, the divine spark of goodness inherent within each being. Ubuntu is extremely important in Africa and the world at large as the world needs a common guiding principle of human values.
