describe the process of conjugation in ciliates using the example of Paramecium. what are the advantage of Encystment in protozoans
Conjugation in Paramecium
Through other circumstances like environmental stress or overcrowding, Paramecium changes from asexual production to sexual production. Sexual reproduction occurs through the exchange of genetic materials between two people having different ‘strains of mating’. Two paramecia line themselves side by side through conjugation and join together. They join at the cytoplasmic bridge. The diploid micronucleus passes through mitosis and results in micronuclei. Only one of the micronuclei of the cell disintegrates. This micronucleus then undergoes mitosis and the two daughter haploids are formed
