The water-cement ratio is important because it influences all of the desirable qualities of concrete. What is the typical water-cement ratio for normal strength concrete?
More commonly, water-cement ratios of 0.40 to 0.60 are used. Lower ratios are utilized with a plasticizer to promote flowability in higher-strength concrete. If there is too much water in the mix, the sand and aggregate components will separate from the cement paste.
