What limitation does the Regulation of Gatherings Act place on the right to protest?
he implementation of section 17 is also qualified externally through the Regulation of Gatherings Act. The preamble to the Act emulates some of the language of section 11, stating that:
Every person has the right to assemble with other persons and to express his views on any matter freely in public and to enjoy the protection of the State while doing so; and the exercise of such right shall take place peacefully and with due regard to the rights of others.
As such therefore the Act is limited if the protest is not peaceful and does not respect the right of others
