Describe what the notion of health inequality entails and discuss the gender related health inequalities experienced in South Africa.
Health inequalities are the systematic, avoidable, and unfair differences in health outcomes that can be observed between populations, social groups within the same population, or a gradient across a population ranked by social position. In South Africa, social determinants of health such as poverty, unequal access to health care, lack of education, stigma, and racism are contributing factors to health inequities.
