Watch the following video that gives us a basic idea of what we regard as communication and how important it is to our day-to-day interaction:
Defining Communication
Imagine a study room with two persons in it who sit and study without talking to each other. This lasts for about two hours until they both leave the room. As an observer, would you say that communication has occurred between the two persons in that room? Substantiate your answer in a brief essay.
Communication is the imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium. It is the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else.
As an observer who has been observing two people both sitting down studying without talking to each other, I would conclude that communication occurred between these people. This is because communication is not only in form of talking and the type of communication that was used in this case these people used the nonverbal form of communication whereby the participants communicate by use of body language. I can testify that communication occurred because after two hours of studying they left the study meaning that they used facial expressions to signal that it was time for them to leave the study room. This is clear evidence that communication occurred between the two.
