Propose few suggestions on how mass media as social problem can be managed and its impact minimised
Due to its rapid dominance and growth, mass media has played a significant role in forming and influencing people’s conduct, attitudes, and beliefs. Mass media has greatly impacted individuals’ daily lives, both positive and negative. Some of mass media’s positive impacts include enhanced social coordination, transformed business operations, online education, recreation, and the creation of job opportunities. However, mass media has also negatively impacted community life ranging from erotic behaviors to escalated crime activities. Additionally, violent representations in the media have led to the emergence of social problems. Conversely, using specific interventions, we can cater to most of the problems caused by excessive mass media consumerism.
In this discussion, I wish to propose some suggestions regarding how we can manage mass media as a social problem and minimize its impact. The following ways are crucial:
i) Abandoning mass media platforms that stir up negative emotions. This enables to eliminate posts that negatively influence one's self-esteem, anxiety levels, and mood.
ii) Using mass media platforms to socialize with individuals who positively impact our mental well-being. This enables us to use mass media as a positive space to integrate socially with people of similar interests.
iii) Allocating limits on the amount of time we spend on mass media platforms. As a result, we can minimize the risk of developing mental health complications.
iv) Ensuring that we post information that educates the public instead of causing violence.
v) Ensuring that we employ mass media as an agent of change in development.
